MLK Day
I celebrated the MLK holiday by sleeping late and avoiding responsibilities. I had originally planned to work regardless of the holiday, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it today. I think my vacation mindset is already starting to take hold — France is only 2 days away!
I’ll probably hate myself tomorrow for being undisciplined, but it felt good. Now I have to squeeze 3 days of work into one. Ugh, that’s going to be tough. I guess I’ll be working late tomorrow and probably working on Wednesday morning even though it’s officially the start of my vacation. Oh well, it felt good to relax today.
I conquered some of my laziness this afternoon and got out to run a few errands. Gary and I also did a little shopping for the trip and ended up at Watter’s Crossing for a quiet dinner at Mi Cocina followed by a trip to Legacy Books, a great local bookstore nestled among the Shops at Legacy.
I picked up another travel book for the trip to Nice. I’m really starting to get excited, and I’m trying to learn as many French words as possible. Although I won’t be able to hold real a conversation with anyone in French, they say the French people are more willing to help you if you at least attempt a few words in their language. Hopefully, they will have pity on me and speak English (haha)! At a minimum, I’m hoping not to be an obnoxious American who won’t even try to speak a few words in French. I may butcher their language, but at least I’m willing to try. Wish me luck!
On another note, today we recognized the inspiring life of Martin Luther King. I think it’s neat that we are celebrating his life the day before the inauguration of our first black President, Barack Obama. MLK paved the way for this event to occur; it’s truly the fulfillment of his dream.
